Job purpose 

Under the direct supervision of Food Service Coordinator, performs basic food service functions, including the preparation and serving of food items, ordering and stocking of supplies, and catering special events. 


  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience in a food service related position.
  • Possession of, or capable of acquiring, a Food Handler's Certificate. 


  • Associate's Degree or equivalent from two (2) year college or technical school in Food Service and Culinary Arts, OR
  • 2,000 hours (at least one (1) year) of applicable work experience in food service and/or culinary arts.                                                                               


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from four (4) year college or technical school in Food Service and Culinary Arts, OR
  • 6,000 hours (at least three (3) years) of applicable work experience in food service and/or culinary arts.                                                                                                                                                                       

Core Job Duties 

  • Understands and complies with County/State/Federal health codes to ensure the health and safety of staff and person(s)-served.
  • Ability to keep kitchen, preparation/serving areas and storage area are clean, safe and sanitary, meeting health department regulations.
  • Ability to prepare eating areas for meal times.
  • Ability to plan, prepare, and assemble portions in accordance with daily menu or recipe.
  • Prepare food items by ensuring quality, quantity, flavor, and temperature are accounted for.
  • Transport food and supplies to rooms, kitchen and service areas.
  • Utilizes all protective equipment (hairnet/hat, gloves, etc.)
  • Ability to inventory stock and make determinations of purchasing needs.
  • Ability to ensure that food items are properly organized, rotated, and put away in storage.
  • Inspect food items and equipment on a constant basis.
  • Assists with food preparation services for catering projects. (sets up, prepares facilities, maintains food presentation, etc.).
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of working in a busy kitchen - bending, kneeling, squatting, carrying, and lifting up to 50 lbs. with varied frequency.
  • Ability to interact with and relate effectively to individuals at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to listen to others to facilitate an open exchange of ideas and provide for effective communication.
  • Ability to orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
  • Timely completion and submission of weekly paper work.
  • Timely completion and submission of all daily paper work, as needed.
  • Timely completion and submission of all payroll documents.
  • Timely completion and submission of staff reimbursement forms.
  • Ensuring communication and coordination with and between multiple Department/Programs.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer systems currently employed by FCC.
  • Maintain/improve professional competencies through training activities and/or other educational means.
  • Maintain awareness regarding the agency vision and assist staff in continuing motivation and empowerment.
  • Consistently complies with supervisory directives as it applies to enforcement of facility policies and procedures with person(s)-served.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Listen to others to facilitate an open exchange of ideas and provide for effective communication.
  • Orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
  • Maintain confidentiality, at all times, within the legal framework. Will adhere to established guidelines regarding confidentiality as well as the agency's adopted code of ethics.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance record, respect break periods and work with supervisor to ensure coverage during any absence.
  • Exhibit a professional appearance, attitude and demeanor that reflects confidence, positive self-esteem and overall professionalism when working with person(s)-served, co-workers, families and referral sources.
