Job purpose 

The Recreation Technician is responsible for ensuring person(s)-served are provided therapeutic recreational activities that encourage teamwork, sportsmanship and the meaning of fair play. The Recreation Technician will organize and promote activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, social recreation and hobbies, taking into account the needs and interests of person(s)-served. 

Qualifications                       

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Must be capable of accurately recording and communicating diverse information and monitor said information;
  • Possess or ability to possess, a MO Class "E" Chauffeur's license;
  • Meet the minimum requirements to be clinically privileged by FCC Behavioral Health. 

RECREATION TECH LEVEL II (SEE RSA LEVEL STRUCTURE) 

  • 2000 hours (at least one (1) year) of applicable work experience. 

RECREATION TECH LEVEL III (SEE RSA LEVEL STRUCTURE) 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice and/or other Social Service related field, OR
  • 4000 hours (at least two (2) years) of applicable work experience.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Core Job Duties 

  • Monitors and facilitates group/recreational activities in accordance to program schedule using a group facilitating format and group/recreational material that engage the person(s)-served.
  • Maintains recreation curriculum in accordance with program requirements.
  • Plan and implement special recreation projects within the program as well as special projects within the community.
  • Evaluates recreation areas, facilities, and services to determine if they are producing desired results.
  • Explains principles, techniques and safety procedures to participants in recreational activities and effectively demonstrates proper use of materials and equipment.
  • Inventories and requests purchases of supplies and recreational equipment.
  • Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet participant needs.
  • Educates person(s)-served on positive leisure time activities
  • Encourage participants to develop their own activities and leadership skills through group discussions.
  • Assist's in identifying and assessing strengths and needs of person(s)-served.
  • Assists in identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Assists in the supervision and facilitation of educational activities.
  • Provides guidance and direction to person(s)-served including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Enforces rules and regulations of recreational activities to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
  • Transports and accompanies person(s)-served on community outings.
  • Administer first-aid according to prescribed procedures, and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.
  • Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to the public, government, and other external sources by exchanges in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files, breaking down and preparing charts and preparing treatment materials.
  • Work with Care Coordinator on person(s)-served aftercare plans directly related to positive recreation activities in the person(s)-served community.
  • Provides continuous supervision of person(s)-served in order to ensure compliance with schedules and services.
  • Orients new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other participants, explaining facility rules and encouraging participation.
  • Serves as a positive role model through professional appearance, therapeutic communication and respect for self and others.
  • Assists in identifying and assessing strengths and needs of person(s)-served.
  • Assists in identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping to improve knowledge and/or skills of person(s)-served.
  • Monitors self-administration of medication and effectively complete associated documentation, as requested.
  • Monitors facilities and storage areas for cleanliness and condition of equipment; adjusts and moves items to proper areas.
  • Ability to inform supervisor of any damage(s) to facility and follow-up to ensure the safety of person(s)-served, staff and visitors.
  • Consistently monitors the overall health and safety of all person(s)-served, staff and visitors and reports any changes and/or dangers that could potentially affect the treatment setting.
  • Monitors and reports any physical and/or emotional changes of person(s)-served to the appropriate staff members.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of special projects conducted within the program and/or in the community.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer systems currently employed by FCC.
  • Provides feedback to the treatment team in regard to the person(s)-served level of participation and cooperation in group/recreational activities.
  • Participates in clinical staffing of person(s)-served, to include attendance of meetings and/or written notes regarding person(s)-served cooperation and participation with program expectations.
  • Consistently complies with supervisory directives as it applies to enforcement of facility policies and procedures with person(s)-served.                
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to interact with and relate effectively to individuals at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to listen to others to facilitate an open exchange of ideas and provide for effective communication.
  • Ability to orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times within the legal framework. Will adhere to established guidelines regarding confidentiality as well as the agency's adopted code of ethics.
  • Maintains acceptable attendance record, respect break periods and work with supervisor to ensure coverage during any absence.
  • Exhibits a professional appearance, attitude and demeanor that reflects confidence, positive self-esteem and overall professionalism when working with person(s)-served, co-workers, families and referral sources.
  • Demonstrates initiative and a "can do" attitude.
  • Other job duties and special projects as assigned.
